EAU CLAIRE — In partnership with area disability specialists, educators and advocates, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will present the third annual Youth Transition Conference from 8 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Jan. 4, 2012, on the UW-Eau Claire campus.

Designed for teens and young adults with disabilities, their families, educators and other professionals, the conference addresses concerns young people with disabilities face as they transition from high school to independent living, further education, employment and community life.

Tim Sheehan, executive director of the Center for Independent Living for Western Wisconsin, will present a keynote address titled "It's Your Life, Take Control!" Participants may choose from more than 30 sessions on such topics as employment, postsecondary education, life skills, community resources, money management and assistive technology. More than 20 exhibitors from area nonprofit agencies, state agencies and service providers also will be on hand to share information and answer questions.

The cost is $5 for youth, young adults, family members, caregivers and chaperones; and $35 for service providers and other professionals. Lunch and snacks are included in the registration fee. Early registration is recommended as some sessions have limited space.

To register, obtain additional information, or request accommodations for disabilities, call Continuing Education at 715-836-3636 or 866-893-2423, use the Wisconsin Relay System (711), visit the Continuing Education website or email ce@uwec.edu.
