EAU CLAIRE — A University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire senior has received a prestigious scholarship from the Public Relations Student Society of America for his leadership work and academic achievement.

Nick Hogan, a mass communication-public relations major from Colgate, was the first-place winner of the John D. Graham Scholarship award program. The award includes a $3,000 scholarship to go toward education expenses.

Hogan is the first student in the history of the UW-Eau Claire chapter of PRSSA to receive this scholarship, said Barbara Arnold, a professional adviser for the campus chapter of PRSSA.

The award was especially humbling because it comes from peers in national PRSSA and PRSA, Hogan said, adding that it will serve as a constant reminder to him that with hard work and dedication, all things are possible.

"When the national organization for your field of study recognizes your contributions to the field, it's not an honor you take lightly," Hogan said. "This is truly an amazing award to receive, as John Graham has been a pioneer in the field of public relations."

To be eligible for the award, a student must be enrolled in a journalism or public relations program, demonstrate leadership skills, display practical experience through an internship or other job experience, and express a commitment to the field of public relations.

The award process involved an application signed by the two UW-Eau Claire PRSSA advisers and three letters of recommendation.
