Guest artist recital set for Nov. 8

EAU CLAIRE — A guest artist recital featuring cellist Benjamin Karp and pianist Deloise Changas Lima will begin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Karp is a professor of cello and director of chamber music at the University of Kentucky. Lima is an assistant professor of collaborative piano at Florida State University.

A member the University of Kentucky's faculty since 1991, Karp was an adjunct associate professor of cello at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music during the 2009-10 academic year. During the summer months, Karp teaches, performs and serves as head of strings at the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina.

Before joining the University of Kentucky faculty, Karp played cello for the New College String Quartet for six years and was principal cellist of the Florida West Coast Symphony. He also was principal cellist of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra for 10 years, recording and appearing as a soloist with that ensemble. Karp often performs with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and has accompanied the orchestra for two international tours, numerous Carnegie Hall performances, 15 Telarc CD recordings and hundreds of performances in Cincinnati. He is a widely known chamber musician and has appeared at festivals throughout the United States.

Born in Brazil, Lima began piano study at the age of 9 and at 11 gave her solo debut at the School of Music and Fine Arts in Parana, Brazil. She earned a master of music degree in piano performance and literature at the University of Notre Dame and a doctor of music in piano accompanying from Florida State University.

A sought-after accompanist and chamber musician, Lima has performed extensively throughout Brazil with many nationally recognized singers and instrumentalists.

The Nov. 8 guest artist recital is free and open to the public.
