RELEASED: May 6, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension will offer two programs for nonprofit staff, board members and volunteers in June. Boris Frank, senior consultant and executive director of Madison's Henry Vilas Zoological Society's Friends of the Zoo, will be the instructor. Both programs will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Sleep Inn & Suites Conference Center in Eau Claire.

"Getting the Grants You Need" will be held June 22. Topics will include selecting and approaching prospects; how to prepare your organization for successful grant applications; how to contact potential funders; and how to obtain sources of information about grants. The afternoon session will focus on designing a well-organized grant proposal; writing clear goals and objectives; how to create a workable budget; the importance of evaluation selection; the value of the proposal writing checklist; and administrative issues.

"Diversifying Your Funding Base" will be held June 23. Topics will include individual giving; establishing a Friends organization; direct mail; planned giving; endowments; "cause-related" funding; special events and projects; how to involve volunteers; and raising funds with limited resources.

The cost to attend is $99 per program and includes materials and refreshments. Lunch is not provided; the 29 Pines restaurant is attached to the conference center. Participants will earn up to six continuing education contact hours for each workshop.
