SUBJECT: Campus contact for analysis, perspective on death of Osama bin Laden
The following UW-Eau Claire faculty/staff members are available to reporters seeking analysis and perspective on yesterday's death of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden:
- Dr. Ali R. Abootalebi, professor of political science. Among his areas of expertise are Middle East politics, history and language; sociopolitical and economic issues related to the Middle East; and the future of civil society and democracy in the Middle East. He also has done research on and taught about Islam and politics, Iran, U.S.-Middle Eastern policy and the global political economy. He is an executive council member of the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies (www.wisconsin-institute.org). - Bonnie Isaacson, a nontraditional student adviser who works closely with UW-Eau Claire students who are military veterans, is available to help coordinate media interviews with student veterans who may wish to share their thoughts regarding the death of Osama Bin Laden. - Dr. Tarique Niazi, assistant professor of sociology. Dr. Niazi's areas of expertise include conflicts in South and Southeast Asia; geopolitics in South Asia; and the ethnic dimensions of conflicts in Afghanistan and Pakistan. A faculty member at UW-Eau Claire since 2000, Dr. Niazi earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from universities in Pakistan. He earned a second master's degree and his Ph.D. from UW-Madison.
