Summer programs to be offered for educators, speech-language pathologists and those interested in learning sign language

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension will offer several courses, both online and face-to-face, for educators, speech-language pathologists, people interested in becoming speech-language pathologists and those who wish to learn American Sign Language.

The online credit courses for educators are:

• "Teaching Adult Learners," May 23-July 1, three graduate credits. The instructor is Dr. Sue McIntyre, UW-Eau Claire professor of education studies.
  
  
• "Director of Special Education and Pupil Services Certification Program," begins June 6; application deadline is April 15. Participants can complete all course work for DPI License 80 within one year.
  
  
• "Wisconsin Indian History, Culture, and Tribal Sovereignty," July 18-Aug. 5, two graduate credits. The instructor is Dr. James Oberly, UW-Eau Claire professor of history. Fulfills DPI licensure requirement.

The following online credit courses for speech-language pathologists are offered in partnership with SpeechPathology.com. The instructor is Linda Schreiber, and there is a rolling registration deadline.

• "Current Issues in Childhood Apraxia of Speech," one credit, graduate or undergraduate.
  
  
• "Autism Spectrum Disorders and Asperger's Syndrome." Earn one or two academic credits (graduate or undergraduate) on the topic of autism spectrum disorders and Asperger's syndrome.

To earn one credit, choose from any one of the following course topics (credit will not be awarded for more than one of these courses):

• "Autism Spectrum Disorders and Asperger's Syndrome in Young Children."
  
  
• "Autism Spectrum Disorders and Asperger's Syndrome in Elementary-Aged Children."
  
  
• "Autism Spectrum Disorders and Asperger's Syndrome in Adolescents and Young Adults."

To earn two credits, choose any one of the topics listed above plus the following course:

• "Autism Spectrum Disorders and Asperger's Syndrome: Build Your Own Course."

The following online credit courses for speech-language pathologists and those who want to become speech-language pathologists will be offered:

• "Normal Communication Development," three undergraduate credits. The instructor is Dr. Kristine Retherford, UW-Eau Claire professor of communication sciences and disorders.
  
  
• "Phonetics: Theory and Application," two undergraduate credits. The instructor is Dr. Lisa LaSalle, UW-Eau Claire professor of communication sciences and disorders.

On-campus credit courses are:

• "Perfecting Percussion: Better Your Section and Yourself," June 20-22/23, two to three graduate credits or non-credit. The instructor is Dr. Jeff Crowell, UW-Eau Claire associate professor of music.
  
  
• "American Sign Language I," June 13-July 8, three undergraduate credits. The instructor is Nicole Jones.
  
  
• "American Sign Language II," July 11-Aug. 5. The instructor is Kristin Scheibe.
