April 3 power outage to affect lower campus, McPhee/Olson Addition

RELEASED: March 28, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — An eight- to 10-hour electrical outage is planned for April 3 in buildings south and east of the Chippewa River on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire lower campus and in the McPhee Physical Education Center and Ade Olson Addition on upper campus. The outage will begin at 7 a.m.

Lower campus buildings affected by the power outage will be Hibbard Humanities Hall, Zorn Arena, Brewer Hall, Kjer Theatre, Campus School, Schneider Social Sciences Hall, Phillips Science Hall, Davies Center, the Nursing Building, Schofield Hall, McIntyre Library, the Old Library, Putnam Hall and Thomas Hall.

The outage is needed so crews can perform electrical work on the university's new student center construction project, said Christopher Hessel, construction project coordinator for UW-Eau Claire Facilities Management.

Primary campus power lines currently run under the site where the new building's foundation will be constructed and must be moved before installation of Geopiers to support the foundation can be completed, Hessel said.
