EAU CLAIRE — The fifth annual International Poetry Reading will take place at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire from 7-9 p.m. April 27 in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.
During the event, students, community members and faculty come together to read and listen to poems in languages other than modern, standard English. Volunteers are encouraged to submit and read their favorite foreign language poetry. Entries are required by April 15.
"UW-Eau Claire's annual International Poetry Reading is a joyous celebration of language, culture, poetry and diversity within our community," said Dr. Audrey Fessler, assistant professor of English and women's studies, who, along with Dr. Jeff Vahlbusch, associate professor of German and director of the University Honors Program, has organized the event since 2007.
"Last year, audience members heard poems in 32 different languages, from Belorusian and Burmese to Ukrainian and Vietnamese," Vahlbusch said. "Our goal is to hear as many different languages as possible within two hours. We can promise you a magical experience."
Guidelines to participate are as follows:
The event is held under the auspices of UW-Eau Claire's English Fest 2011.
