ROTC cadets receive achievement awards

RELEASED: March 24, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — Several Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire were recognized for their achievements at the Northwoods Battalion Fifth Annual Military Ball. The event, held at UW-River Falls March 5, included cadets from UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout and UW-River Falls.

UW-Eau Claire senior cadet Ryan Matchey, Centerville, Minn.; junior cadets Andrew Marcellino, Wausau; Jack Dillow, Glenwood City; and Kristopher Dahlberg, South Haven, Minn.; and sophomore cadet Matthew Edwards, Rochester, Minn., formed the saber arch for the evening's events. Seniors Zach Boldon, Stoddard, (field artillery) and Travis Messmer, Rock Springs (aviation), were recognized as May 2011 commissionees.

The following awards were received by UW-Eau Claire Army ROTC cadets:

  • Zach Boldon, Stoddard — National Defense Industrial Association and Sergeant York Award.

  • Ryan Matchey, Centerville, Minn. — American Veterans Award and Military Officers' Association of America Award.

  • Andrew Marcellino, Wausau — Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Award.

  • Louisa Denno, Blaine, Minn. — Reserve Officers' Association Bronze Award.

  • Isaiah Eaton, Mayville — National Sojourner's Award.

  • Jack Dillow, Glenwood City — Battalion Commander's Recruiting Award.

  • Keith Dawson, Neillsville — General Society of the War of 1812 Award.

  • Allison Derthick, Knoxville, Tenn. — Military Order of the Purple Heart Award.

  • Spencer Webb, Hammond — Sons of the American Revolution Award.

  • Molly Jones, Burnsville, Minn. — Daughters of the Founders and Patriots of America Award.

  • Doug Dessecker, Big Bend — Superior Cadet Award.
