EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host the Arab World Lecture at 5:30 p.m. April 11 in Room 100 of Hibbard Humanities Hall.
The presenter, Dr. Dwight Reynolds, will speak about Arab folklore. Reynolds is a professor of religious studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he specializes in folklore, poetry and music in medieval North Africa and Spain. He is the author of "Arab Folklore: A Handbook" and "Heroic Poets, Poetic Heroes: The Ethnography of Performance in an Arabic Oral Epic Tradition."
This annual lecture series is designed to stimulate interest and strengthen knowledge about the Arab World. While on campus, Reynolds also will present "Jews, Christians and Muslims in the Musical World of Medieval Spain." The talk will be held at noon April 11 in Room 310 of Hibbard Hall.
Both events are free and open to the public. Reynolds' visit is sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire Middle East Studies Minor Committee; College of Arts and Sciences; and departments of history, philosophy and religious studies, and foreign languages.
