EAU CLAIRE — A scholarship was recently established through the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation to honor the memory of Samantha DeLong, a 2010 social work graduate. Her parents, Joe and Susan DeLong, of Green Bay, set up the fund to provide a $500 award to be given to an outstanding UW-Eau Claire social work major each semester for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic years.

Samantha DeLong died in June of 2010. She was a 2006 graduate of Green Bay Southwest High School. At the time of her death, she was working for Lutheran Social Services in Eau Claire. She was known for her musical talents, her love of animals and her compassion toward others.

"We set up the Samantha DeLong Memorial Scholarship as a way of honoring our daughter and the career path she had chosen," said Susan DeLong. "By providing scholarships to UW-Eau Claire students, we are investing in the development of knowledgeable and compassionate social workers of the future."

The scholarship is open to juniors and seniors with a minimum of one semester at UW-Eau Claire remaining. Recipients must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 or better, be held in high regard by faculty and peers and have not received a Samantha DeLong Memorial Scholarship previously.

For more information about this and other scholarships available through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation, visit the Foundation website or contact Kimera Way, Foundation executive director, at waykk@uwec.edu.
