Artists Series concludes with TU Dance

TU DancersEAU CLAIRE — A performance by TU Dance on April 4 will conclude the Artists Series season at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of Haas Fine Arts Center.

TU Dance is a nonprofit professional dance organization founded in 2004 by Toni Pierce-Sands and Uri Sands. The Minnesota-based company reaches across dance styles, drawing on a broad range of dance traditions from contemporary ballet to modern and traditional forms. TU Dance's work aims to reveal the connective power of dance, celebrating a beautiful diversity on stage.

In its first few seasons, TU Dance has premiered a compelling repertory of new work by choreographer Uri Sands, named as one of Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch" and recipient of the inaugural 2005 Princess Grace Award in choreography. The company has also premiered works by leading American choreographers such as Dwight Rhoden and Ronald K. Brown.

"Cookies for a Cause," an Artists Series initiative to spotlight nonprofit community organizations, continues. Cookies made especially for the program by Blugold Dining will be sold ($2, cash only) at the performance, with profits going to benefit Positive Avenues. A program of Lutheran Social Services, Positive Avenues is a daytime drop-in center for people with serious and persistent mental illness as well as homelessness. Emotional support, vocational and recreational opportunities, and structuring of individual schedules are available at this safe haven located at 618 S. Barstow Street, Eau Claire.

Tickets for TU Dance are $17 for the public, $15 for those 62 and older and UW System or Chippewa Valley Technical College faculty and staff, or $7 for those 17 and younger and UW System or CVTC students. Tickets for students are half-price, $3.50, until the day of the event. On the day of the event, students must pay the full student-ticket price.

The Artists Series is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the state of Wisconsin. The Artists Series also is funded in part by Visit Eau Claire ... The Unexpected Wisconsin. Wisconsin Public Radio, WHYS Radio and Community Television have contributed generous promotional support. Funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire, the Artists Series is administered by the Activities and Programs office of the University Centers.
