UW-Eau Claire alumna to perform with Iowa Brass Quintet

EAU CLAIRE — A guest artist recital at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will feature the Iowa Brass Quintet at 7:30 p.m. March 30 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

Amy Schendel, a UW-Eau Claire music graduate, plays trumpet in the quintet. Other members are Ed Hong, trumpet; Jeffrey Agrell, horn; David Gier, trombone; and John Manning, tuba. The concert will include pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Victor Ewald, Morley Calvert, William Schmidt and Joseph Horovitz.

The Iowa Brass Quintet originated as a resident faculty ensemble at the University of Iowa in the early 1960s. The group performs for schools, universities and community concert associations throughout the Midwest. Schendel joined the group after her appointment as assistant professor of trumpet at the University of Iowa.

Prior to her current position, Schendel worked at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas, and has held positions with the Madison Symphony Orchestra, Las Colinas Symphony, Spoleto Festival USA, Wisconsin Brass Quintet, National Repertory Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She also was a member of the U.S. Marine Band — The President's Own and the U.S. Air Force Ceremonial Band in Washington, D.C.

The event is free and open to the public.
