Forensics takes first place at Bloomington tournament

RELEASED: March 8, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team took first place in team sweepstakes at the Twin Cities Forensics League Tournament No. 6 hosted by Normandale Community College in Bloomington, Minn.

Several students qualified for the American Forensic Association National Tournament and the National Forensic Association National Tournament.

Individual results for March 1 were:

Sophomore Megan McKeown, Eagan, Minn., took second in prose, qualifying for AFA. McKeown also took third in duo interpretation along with freshman Jarrel Montgomery, Madison. Montgomery also took third in prose.

Senior Alicia Gerber, Ringle took first in duo interpretation, along with senior Sarah Taylor, Merrill, qualifying for NFA. Gerber also took second in duo interpretation with senior Holly Albers, Mazeppa, Minn., qualifying for AFA.

Albers also took first in informative speaking, qualifying for AFA.

Sophomore Abby Rand, Melrose, took third in dramatic interpretation and fourth in prose.

Junior Kindra Kressin, Eau Claire, took sixth in prose, qualifying for NFA. Kressin also took fourth in dramatic interpretation.

Sophomore Jessica Krentz, Wausau, took fourth in persuasion, qualifying for NFA. She also took third in extemporaneous speaking.

Sophomore Megan Chilman, Le Sueur, Minn., took seventh in informative speaking, qualifying for NFA. Chilman also took fourth in poetry.

Freshman JR Smathers, Altoona, took fourth in informative speaking.

Freshman Stephen Fong, Shorewood, took third in communication analysis.

Freshman Dani Bronshteyn, Elk River, Minn., took fifth in dramatic interpretation, qualifying for NFA.

Junior James Kust, Eau Claire, took second in dramatic interpretation, qualifying for NFA.

The team will travel to South Dakota March 11-12 for competition.
