Construction of the new student center will begin today (Monday, March 7). Kraemer Brothers LLC, Plain, is the single prime contractor for the project. Construction will be coordinated by the Division of State Facilities. Erection of construction fences will be the first step in the project, followed immediately by site preparation work. The $48.8 million new university student center project will replace the 51-year-old Davies Center, which will be deconstructed. The site of the existing Davies Center will be redeveloped as green space. The approximately 170,000-square-foot new student center will be funded through segregated fees, which are paid by students. No tax dollars will be involved in the development of the building. The anticipated completion date for the project is summer 2012.

The Center for International Education will host Asian Night from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, March 10.
