EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host piano duo Stanislava Varshavski and Diana Shapiro at 7:30 p.m. March 8 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

Varshavski was born in Ukraine and Shapiro in Russia. The two met at the Jerusalem Rubin Academy, where they were encouraged by a professor to play piano as a duo. The pair has won top prizes at international competitions, including the world's biggest competition in piano duos, the Dranoff International Two Piano Competition.

The duo was invited to UW-Eau Claire by Dr. Namji Kim, associate professor of music. Kim said the duo was recommended by a UW-Madison piano professor.

"Our audience can expect a lovely evening filled with excitement and musical beauty as the piano duo will perform virtuosic and romantic pieces," Kim said.

The concert will feature pieces showcasing the duo's musicianship on two pianos and one piano with four hands. The performance is sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and the department of music and theatre arts, and is free and open to the public.
