Sororities to celebrate International
Badge Day March 7

RELEASED: March 4, 2011

International Badge Day LogoEAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire sororities will celebrate International Badge Day March 7 to celebrate and promote sisterhood.

"This day is set aside to acknowledge successful women around the globe, whether they are U.S. Senators or university freshmen," said sophomore Ashley Stewart, Eagan, Minn., a member of Delta Zeta. "Each group is distinct and each will celebrate in different ways, but all will celebrate the diverse interests of women."

UW-Eau Claire Panhellenic Council President Tara Lorence, Plymouth, Minn., said the three campus sororities — Sigma Sigma Sigma, Delta Zeta and Alpha Xi Delta — will participate by wearing nice attire and their badges.

"Each of our badges is important to us," Stewart said, adding that International Badge Day is one small step for the organizations to branch out and to show support.

International Badge Day was established in 1997 by the National Panhellenic Conference for women across the nation to wear their sorority badges or Greek letters. Founded in 1902, the conference guides 26 member sororities and serves as the national voice on contemporary issues in sorority life.
