Foundation launches brick campaign to support new Children's Center

RELEASED: March 2, 2011

Brick by Brick Campaign LogoEAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation is raising money for a new Children's Center, to be built just east of UW-Eau Claire's Human Sciences and Services Building on Water Street. A long waiting list, space constraints and building code issues have necessitated a new home for the campus child care facility that serves students, faculty and community families.

A campaign to raise money through commemorative bricks will help support the addition of a nature center playground and furnishings for the building. The playground will complement the center's emphasis on nature-based learning, taking advantage of nearby green space to provide quality educational experiences outdoors.

"The latest research on early childhood development confirms that children are greatly in need of the opportunities that nature can provide," said Rebecca Wurzer, Children's Center director. "Kids who play outdoors play more creatively, experience less stress, are more physically fit, experience fewer symptoms of ADHD and display greater respect for themselves, others and the environment. Our new facility will continue to reflect our philosophy that the formative years of early childhood set the stage for lifelong learning."

Faculty, staff, students, friends and community members are invited to purchase one or more bricks that will be used to pave a walkway at the entrance of the new Children's Center. Bricks are available in two sizes and may be engraved with messages to honor or memorialize loved ones or commemorate special occasions.

More information about the brick by brick campaign, including an order form with the cost, size and personalization options for the bricks, is available on the UW-Eau Claire Foundation website.
