Financial management series to be offered

RELEASED: March 1, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — Registration is now open for the Financial Management Series offered through the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education's Center for Business Solutions. Designed for small business owners and non-financial managers, all workshops will be held on the UW-Eau Claire campus. The workshops are:

  • "Financial Accounting: Underlying Concepts," 6-9:30 p.m. March 31. Topics will include accounting terminology and concepts, cash vs. accrual accounting methods, how business activities affect financial statements, how the four financial statements are related, how to interpret financial statements, approaches to recording information and the role of financial statements in financial management.

  • "Financial Accounting: Using Financial Statements," 6-9:30 p.m. April 7. Topics will include the need for analyzing financial statements, types of financial analysis tools, what financial rations can tell you and how to interpret financial ratios.

  • "Managerial Accounting: Profit Planning and Budgeting," 6-9:30 p.m. April 14. Topics will include the factors involved in forecasting, the process of budgeting, the purpose of breakeven analysis and how the management tools relate to one another.

  • "Managing Cash Flow," 6-9:30 p.m. April 21. Topics will include the relationship between income forecasts and cash projections, how to develop a cash flow projection, strategies to improve cash flow and tools to diagnose potential cash flow problems.

The cost per workshop is $99 and includes free parking. A discounted rate of $380 is available for those who register for the entire series.

The Center for Business Solutions provides access to recognized experts, high quality programs and valuable resources within the university, including customized contract training for businesses or organizations; confidential, no-cost business counseling; seminars, workshops and certificate programs; and additional resources and support through the Small Business Development Center and Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network regional office.

These seminars are sponsored by the Small Business Development Center at UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education. The SBDC, funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration, is a member of the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network, a coalition of more than 100 organizations that provide access to services for small businesses throughout Wisconsin.
