EAU CLAIRE — A July 11 concert by Celtic infusion band Green Tea will kick off the fifth week of the Summer Events series at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The free show will begin at 7 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall (rain site: The Cabin of Davies Center). Audience members are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic, and enjoy free popcorn.

Green Tea has built a new generation of Celtic music by mixing Celtic roots with rock, pop, folk, jazz and funk. With players originating from New York, Wisconsin and Illinois, this central Wisconsin band offers high-energy shows and a diverse array of instrumentation. All ages love to dance to their music.

Green Tea is composed of Chad Conway (keys, accordion), Hannah L'Herault (fiddle), John Coletta (whistles, vocals, technopipes, hands, flutes), Sean McCue (drums) and Trevor Roark (vocals, guitar, bodhran).

The Playin' in the Park series continues July 13 with a free evening of Summer Events improv beginning at 7 p.m. in the Owen Park bandshell. UW-Eau Claire students and alumni, and Chippewa Valley community members will take the stage with a mix of long- and short-form improvisation.

Dr. Mitra Sadeghpour, soprano and UW-Eau Claire associate professor of music, and Dr. Barbara Young, pianist and lecturer of music, will present a light classical concert at 2 p.m. July 17 in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The Summer Sounds series is presented in cooperation with the music and theatre arts department.

All events are free and open to the Chippewa Valley community. A complete schedule is available online or at the Service Center, 715-836-INFO. The Summer Events program is funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire and coordinated by the Activities, Involvement and Leadership office of the University Centers.
