Outstanding accomplishments recognized with student excellence awards

RELEASED: June 8, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — Student excellence awards were presented recently to outstanding students at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The awards, sponsored by the Alumni Association, the Foundation and University Centers at UW-Eau Claire, call attention to the exceptional contributions students have made to the campus or greater community.

Recipients of the special category excellence awards each received a $250 scholarship through the Foundation, thanks to the generosity of many donors. Students who received Outstanding Graduate Student and Outstanding Undergraduate Student awards from each of the four colleges received a university medallion and a scholarship award.

The following students were honored:

Senior Nicholas J. Hogan, Colgate, Excellence in Leadership; senior Nicole Weber, Hayward, Excellence in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusiveness; senior Elizabeth A. Morris, St. Paul, Minn., Excellence in Global Awareness; senior Charern Lee, Green Bay, Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Activity; senior Christopher N. Maierhofer, Eau Claire, Excellence in Stewardship and Sustainability; senior Sara C. Fathauer, Eau Claire, Non-Traditional Student Leadership Award; senior Richard J. Schimka, Glen Flora, Residence Hall Leadership Award; graduate student Christopher J. Jorgenson, Waupaca, LGBTQA Outstanding Student Leadership Award; senior Roxie Schmidt, Bloomer, LGBTQA Outstanding Student Leadership Award and Giraffe Leadership Award: Sticking One's Neck Out for Social Justice; and senior Matthew P. Winarski, Memphis, Tenn., Andre and Joanne Gibault Blugold Spirit Award.

Also honored were senior James Fay, Oconomowoc, Emerging Leader for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences; senior Jessi L. McIntosh, Cedarburg, Emerging Leader Award for the College of Education and Human Sciences; senior Sarah A. Tweedale, Richfield, Emerging Leader Award for the College of Arts and Sciences; senior Matthew A. Vorhees, Madison, Emerging Leader Award for the College of Business; senior Beth L. Ascher, Sparta, Outstanding Undergraduate Student for the College of Education and Human Sciences; senior Jamie K. Browning, Eau Claire, Outstanding Undergraduate Student for the College of Arts and Sciences; senior Danial Zepplin, Marshfield, Outstanding Undergraduate Student for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences; senior Ashley A. Zimmer, Owen, Outstanding Undergraduate Student for the College of Business; Kelley L. Farber, Tomahawk, Outstanding Graduate Student for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences; and Karla A. Wald, Chippewa Falls, Outstanding Graduate Student for the College of Business.

Circle K was recognized with the Student Organization Award; and Theresa Wells, senior lecturer of management and marketing and adviser to APICS (a professional association for operations management), received the Student Organization Advisor Award.
