EAU CLAIRE — A free outdoor concert by Copper Box Aug. 1 and a special Aug. 14 show by Matt Wahl will wrap up the Summer Events series at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The concerts both begin at 7 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall (rain site: The Cabin of Davies Center). Audience members are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic, and enjoy free popcorn.

Copper Box performs music that crosses boundaries as effortlessly as a supersonic jet, drawing inspiration from rock, polka, blues and Zydeco. Winner of the 2009 Wisconsin Area Music Industry award for Americana Artist of the Year, Copper Box "cooks and swings with some of the best Zydeco-influenced groups anywhere in the country," wrote the Wisconsin Blues Society.

Matt Wahl wins fans everywhere he goes with his fun-loving, sunny-day acoustic music, deep baritone voice and humorous introductions. His show is a look at "the fun side of life" — fantasies of life as a superhero, how to handle a job in cubicle hell, pickup lines, distracted drivers, college housing and a different kind of fake ID. An Eau Claire native now living in Duluth, Minn., Wahl plays between 150 and 200 shows per year in all sorts of venues around the country. His Aug. 14 show is presented in conjunction with the Wisconsin Presenters Network conference being held at UW-Eau Claire Aug. 14-16.

The Summer Events series is funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire and coordinated by the Activities, Involvement and Leadership office of the University Centers.
