SUBJECT: UW System tuition increase impact on UW-Eau Claire students
The UW System Board of Regents today approved a 5.5 percent increase in undergraduate resident tuition rates at the system's four-year campuses. For UW-Eau Claire students, that will mean a tuition increase of $311.23 for the 2011-12 academic year, bringing total resident undergraduate tuition to $6,732.91 for two semesters.
The total UW-Eau Claire tuition amount also includes a $300 ($150-per-semester) increase in differential tuition (a separate tuition over and above the base tuition set by the Board of Regents) that students pay as part of the Blugold Commitment.
The Blugold Commitment, approved in early 2010 by the UW System Board of Regents, is an initiative to allow UW-Eau Claire to maintain and enhance the high-impact learning experiences students say they value. Under the Blugold Commitment, differential tuition will increase to a total of $1,200 per year, phased in over four years. The 2011-12 differential tuition increase is the second of four annual increases that will occur under the initiative.
Programs supported by the Blugold Commitment include domestic and international cultural immersion experiences, internships, innovative projects, enhanced teaching and learning, and expanded opportunities for student/faculty collaborative research and creative scholarly activities. To assure that UW-Eau Claire continues to maintain access for low- and middle-income families, up to 40 percent of the differential tuition increase is being used to provide grants for students with need.
