Media Memo: Student Marcus Fonger to compete at Winter World University Games

SUBJECT: Student Marcus Fonger to compete at Winter World University Games

Marcus Fonger, a UW-Eau Claire sophomore biology major from Cottage Grove, and his curling teammates will represent the United States at the 2011 Winter World University Games, to be held Jan. 27-Feb. 6 in Erzurum, Turkey.

Fonger and his teammates, Blake Morton, Tommy Juszczyk and Calvin Weber (all from McFarland) have played together for several years at the junior ranks. They won the 2010 Wisconsin Junior Men's Championship and competed twice at the U.S. Junior Nationals, earning the bronze in 2009. They earned the Winter World University Games berth by defeating a Minnesota team in a sudden-death playoff during the November selection event in Fargo, N.D.
