Videos sought for 24-Day Video Project

24-Day Video Project PosterRELEASED: Jan. 20, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will be a partner with Local Independent Filmmakers and Chippewa Valley Community Television in an extended version of the classic 48-Hour Video Project. The 24-Day Video Project will begin at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Community Television complex at Banbury Place (800 Wisconsin St., Suite 405) in Eau Claire.

The Forum and the University Activities Commission of the Student Senate are co-sponsors of the 24-Day Video Project. This year's project theme is "Superheroes."

At the Jan. 28 kickoff, a $20 entry will be collected, and participants will receive the prop and line of dialogue that must appear in their films. Participants are welcome to script, storyboard and plan their project, but no filming should be done before the start of the project.

Completed videos should run from one to 10 minutes and must be submitted to the Community Television complex by 7 p.m. Feb. 20. Movies that exceed the time limit will be disqualified. Accepted formats are miniDV, VHS, S-VHS, DVD, digital 8 or a Microsoft AVI burned onto a data DVD-R. Other formats may be used with prior approval.

At 7 p.m. March 6 the UAC Films Committee will screen the completed projects and host an awards ceremony in Schofield Auditorium at UW-Eau Claire. Admission is free and open to everyone.

First prize is a 30-minute consultation on March 8 with Michael Uslan, executive producer of the "Batman" film franchise, before his Forum presentation. Uslan's address — "From Fan to Filmmaker: Bringing Batman to the Silver Screen" — will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Zorn Arena. All 24-Day Video Project participants will be invited to a reception with Uslan.

For more information, visit the UAC Films website; e-mail the Local Independent Filmmakers [lif@charter.net]; or call Rob Mattison at Chippewa Valley Community Television at 715-839-5067.
