Spring schedule for The Cabin announced

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire has announced the spring semester schedule of events at The Cabin, the Davies Center coffeehouse that provides free performances nearly every weekend and jazz concerts most Wednesday evenings.

The schedule includes open stage opportunities for campus and area talent and musical performances by UW-Eau Claire students, faculty, staff, community members and nationally touring artists. All performances are produced and managed completely by student members of The Cabin committee of the Student Senate's University Activities Commission.

The semester opens Jan. 28 with a local talent performance featuring Savannah Smith. Highlights of the semester include the following:

— Featured professional artists Derek James (Feb. 25-26), Laarks (March 11-12) and Patchouli (April 8-9) will perform Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., and Saturday at 8 p.m.

— Open stage opportunities will be presented Jan. 29, March 5, April 1 and May 14. Anyone interested in performing in front of a live audience may sign up in the Student Organizations Complex, Davies Center 132, before 4:30 p.m. on the day of the show. The sign-up sheet is posted the Monday before each open stage event.

— Students and guests of UW-Eau Claire's award-winning jazz studies area will perform on select Wednesday nights (Feb. 16 and 23; March 2, 9, 16 and 30; April 6, 20 and 27; and May 4).

— A Singer-Songwriter Slam will be presented Feb. 18 as part of the Winter Carnival celebration.

— Local talent presentations that are scheduled to date include the following: Daniel and the Lion, Feb. 5; I Am Daniel, Feb. 11; Aria Souder, Feb. 12; The Ericksons, Feb. 19; Cody Christian & Band, March 4; Phil Circle, April 2; Stukenberg, April 29; Elliot Arms, April 30; Newport Jams, May 6; Cait Leary, May 7; and Nathan K, May 13.

Cabin performances are free and open to all ages. Soft drinks, domestic and imported beer, specialty coffee drinks and tea are sold at all Friday and Saturday programs.
