EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension is now accepting registrations for "Out of the Shadows: Children's Mental Health," which consists of two programs relating to children's mental health issues. The programs, which will be presented April 8 at The Florian Gardens in Eau Claire, are:

  • "A Day of Film & Reflection: Conference for Professionals" will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Designed for educators, social workers, therapists, law enforcement personnel, clergy and others who work with children, this conference uses film as a catalyst to discuss issues related to children's mental health. The program fee is $89 and includes program materials, instruction and lunch.

  • "An Evening of Hope for Communities" will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. Designed for families, teachers and others dealing with mental health issues of children and adolescents, this program uses film clips and personal experiences to attempt to bridge the gaps that exist in children's mental health care. The program fee of $25 includes program materials and dessert.

The keynote speaker for both programs is Hugh Davis, executive director of Wisconsin Family Ties. The daytime program will feature other professionals who work with children with mental health needs, including medical, therapeutic and juvenile justice personnel. The evening program, moderated by Dr. Mike Axelrod, associate professor of psychology at UW-Eau Claire, will include a panel presentation by parents and professionals.

For additional program information, to register or request reasonable accommodations for disabilities, call Continuing Education at 715-836-3636 or 866-893-2423, use the Wisconsin Relay System (711), visit the Continuing Education website or e-mail ce@uwec.edu.
