Events planned for Martin Luther King Day of Service

RELEASED: Jan. 11, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — The third annual Martin Luther King Day of Service will bring together members of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and greater Eau Claire communities to participate in multiple service projects throughout the community.

Participants will gather at noon Jan. 17 at The Community Table, 320 Putnam St., to register and have lunch. At 1 p.m., there will be a short presentation and video about King's life and teachings.

Following the presentation, participants will spend the afternoon volunteering at one of several service sites. Service sites include The Community Table, the Campus Kitchen at UW-Eau Claire, Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity and Feed My People food bank. Volunteer activities will end around 4 p.m.

Last year more than 60 people participated in the event. Organizers hope to see that number increase to 75 people this year.

The event is sponsored by the Campus Kitchen at UW-Eau Claire, the university's Center for Service-Learning, AmeriCorps and ECLIPSE.
