Tickets to 37th annual Viennese Ball now on sale

RELEASED: Feb. 23, 2011

Viennese Ball Brochure Cover

EAU CLAIRE — Tickets are now available for the 37th annual Viennese Ball, to be held April 15-16 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The doors of Davies Center will open at 6:30 p.m. for the ball, which is the largest social event hosted annually by the university. Proceeds from the event have provided more than $1 million in music scholarships and international study awards for deserving UW-Eau Claire students.

Ticket brochures are available on campus, and a printable ticket order form can be found online. Ticket orders must be submitted by U.S. Mail until March 7, at which time walk-up and telephone orders will be accepted. If ticket requests exceed availability, orders will be returned.

The Viennese Ball is a formal event recalling the romance and elegance of 19th-century Vienna, Austria. Modeled on the historic New Year's Eve Kaiser Ball, the event is presented in duplicate each evening, transforming both levels of Davies Center. The ball showcases the University Symphony Orchestra, performing waltzes and polkas from the Strauss Era; Jazz Ensemble I, performing music from America's Big Band Era; and student and faculty ensembles and regional musicians performing a variety of repertoire. The Viennese Ball promotes positive university, community and international relations by expanding an awareness of the culture, history and music of Vienna.

In addition to dancing in the ballroom, guests may shop for flowers, crystal or chocolates, have a photograph taken as a personal souvenir, listen to music and enjoy a variety of Austrian and American cuisine.

Tickets for the Viennese Ball are $40 for the public or $27.50 for UW System students, Chippewa Valley Technical College students and high school students. The traditional midnight breakfast is $9 in advance or $10 at the ball.

The Viennese Ball is produced by the University Centers, a Student Affairs unit of UW-Eau Claire, with the assistance of a university-community committee and a large team of volunteers. Volunteers work on a variety of setup tasks to transform Davies Center into a mini-Vienna. Those interested in volunteering may call 715-836-3882.

Wisconsin Public Radio provides generous promotional support for the Viennese Ball. Best Western Trail Lodge and Suites Eau Claire is the exclusive accommodations partner for the Viennese Ball. Call 715-838-9989 for special rate packages.
