'The Vagina Monologues' to be presented Feb. 24-26

RELEASED: Feb. 21, 2011

V-Day logoEAU CLAIRE — Three benefit performances of Even Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24-26 in Schofield Auditorium at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Donations from local businesses and others sponsor this student production, which is a compilation of women's thoughts, feelings and experiences related to being a woman. The topics of the monologues range from coming of age to instances of sexual assault. The event is used to bring awareness to issues of violence against women and girls all over the world.

UW-Eau Claire's Women's and Gender Equity Center and V-Day Campaign are co-hosting the event. The UW-Eau Claire V-Day Campaign was established in 2007 as part of a global movement to end violence against women and girls. The campaign invites members of college and university communities around the world to present productions of "The Vagina Monologues" to raise money and awareness to help stop violence.

Proceeds from this year's UW-Eau Claire production will be donated to local and global women's charities including the Bolton Refuge House, a shelter in Eau Claire for victims of domestic violence/sexual assault; UW-Eau Claire's Center for Awareness of Sexual Assault; Women and Girls of Haiti; Men Opposed to Sexual Assault, a UW-Eau Claire student organization; and Students Active for Ending Rape.

Tickets for "The Vagina Monologues," available at the University Service Center (715-836-3727 or 800-949-8932), are $10 for the general public or $7 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID.
