Freshman forensics members named top novices at St. Cloud competition

EAU CLAIRE — Several freshman members of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team traveled to St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn., Feb. 4-5, returning with a number of individual trophies.

Individual results for Feb. 4-5 were:

Freshman Jarrel Montgomery, Madison, placed first in poetry and was named top novice for that category and for prose. Montgomery also placed third in dramatic interpretation.

Freshman Stephen Fong, Shorewood, placed fifth in informative speaking, qualifying for the National Forensic Association National Tournament. Fong was also named top novice in that category.

The team will host the Grace Walsh Individual Events Tournament Feb. 12 at UW-Eau Claire and will compete Feb. 13 in the Red Hawk Invitational, which also will be held at UW-Eau Claire and hosted by Ripon College.

"We are so excited to be at home this weekend and host the Grace Walsh Individual Events Tournament," Morris said. "It's a great time for alumni to come back and judge and meet the team."
