Friends of ECCO benefit concert slated for Feb. 13

RELEASED: Feb. 9, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host this year's Friends of the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra benefit concert Feb. 13.

The event, "A Sweet Afternoon," will be held from 2-4 p.m. in The Dulany of UW-Eau Claire's Davies Center.

Dr. Barbara Young, lecturer of music at UW-Eau Claire, will perform on piano, accompanied on tuba by her husband, Dr. Jerry Young, professor of music.

"The ECCO benefit gives us a chance to share three pieces very appropriate for Valentine's Day," Barbara Young said, adding that compositions include a serenade from an operetta, a piece that was composed as an engagement present and a setting of a love poem from the 1600s. "If people think tuba and piano make sort of an odde hope they'll come out to hear for themselves how they work together." couple, w

Other performances will include the Menomonie Chamber Singers; Cathy and Jeffrey Reitz; Dr. Michael Cunningham, UW-Eau Claire professor emeritus of music; and Sarah Miller, a frequent accompanist for UW-Eau Claire student recitals.

This is the second year Friends of ECCO is presenting the benefit.

Tickets, which are $25 for individuals and $45 for couples, are available at Festival Foods, Mega Foods, Neff Piano Shop and Morgan Music. For more information or to obtain tickets, call 715-831-3331 or e-mail info@eauchairechamberorchestra.org.
