EAU CLAIRE — Tickets are still available for the sixth annual Aldo Leopold Banquet and silent auction set for 5-10 p.m. March 3 in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.
The popular banquet — collaboratively hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Environmental Adventure Center — honors the conservation legacy of Aldo Leopold, celebrates his life and writings, and aims to further foster the idea of developing a land ethic. The theme of this year's banquet is "Connecting Aldo Leopold with the 'Next Generation.'" The gathering is designed to pass the land legacy torch to the next generation.
The banquet's rustic-themed menu has several wild game offerings, including smoked buffalo, as well as wild rice, trout and vegetarian options.
The program will feature music by the Stoop Singers and five guest speakers:
Tickets for the banquet, available at the University Service Center in Davies Center or by phone at 715-836-3727, are $20 for the public and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff, and $15 for UW-Eau Claire students. Seating is limited to 300 so advance ticket purchase is requested.
All event proceeds will help support the summer 2011 Wisconsin Youth Sports Camp and efforts to offer youth programs in canoeing, kayaking, fishing, archery, trap shooting, biking, and environmental/conservation service projects on the lower Chippewa River. The camp is a part of the Wisconsin Youth Success Program, which is led by University Recreation & Sport Facilities staff members.
