Forensics team takes second place in team sweepstakes in Illinois tournament

RELEASED: Feb. 3, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team took second place in team sweepstakes Jan. 29 at the Mid-American Forensics League Tournament 5, hosted by Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.

The team then traveled to Illinois State University in Normal, Ill., Jan. 30 and placed third in team sweepstakes at the MAFL 6.

Several students qualified for the American Forensic Association National Tournament and the National Forensic Association National Tournament.

Individual results for Jan. 29 were:

Senior Whitney Zahn, Menomonee Falls, placed fifth in after-dinner speaking and communication analysis.

Freshman Jarrel Montgomery, Madison, placed fifth in poetry and fourth in duo interpretation along with junior Holly Albers, Mazeppa, Minn. Albers also placed third in informative speaking.

Junior James Kust, Eau Claire, placed fourth in informative speaking, qualifying for AFA.

Junior Natalie Hunter, Vadnais Heights, Minn., placed second in informative speaking.

Junior Patrick Martin, Burnsville, Minn., placed third in communication analysis.

Sophomore Jessica Krentz, Wausau, placed fifth in extemporaneous speaking, qualifying for NFA.

Sophomore Abby Rand, Melrose, placed first in persuasion.

Individual results for Jan. 30 were:

Zahn placed second in after-dinner speaking, and sixth in communication analysis.

Krentz placed sixth in impromptu speaking, qualifying for NFA.

Montgomery placed fourth in poetry.

Hunter placed first in poetry, qualifying for NFA. Hunter also placed fifth in dramatic interpretation.

Martin placed first in communication analysis, qualifying for AFA. Martin also placed fourth in dramatic interpretation.

Sophomore Megan McKeown, Eagan, Minn., placed third in dramatic interpretation, qualifying for NFA.

Albers placed first in program oral interpretation and fourth in communication analysis, qualifying for AFA and NFA, respectively. Albers also placed sixth in informative speaking.
