RELEASED: Feb. 1, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Center for Business Solutions will offer practical tips and techniques for using QuickBooks 2011 software for small businesses in hands-on workshops.

Instructor Jim Mattson, an accountant and computer consultant with Bauman Associates in Eau Claire, brings to the workshops more than 15 years of experience helping small businesses develop efficient and effective accounting systems. All sessions will meet in the computer lab in Room 204 of Schneider Hall at UW-Eau Claire. The workshops are:

  • "QuickBooks Accounting Basics," March 21 and 22, 8:30 a.m.-noon. This workshop starts from scratch with software setup, basic accounting tasks and the use of accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions.

  • "Using QuickBooks Effectively," March 23, 8:30 a.m.-noon. This workshop is an advanced class for those familiar with QuickBooks software or those who have completed "QuickBooks Accounting Basics." It focuses on security features, customization issues, and helpful tricks and reports.

Space is limited so early registration is recommended. Workshop fees are $200 per person for "QuickBooks Accounting Basics" (two morning sessions) and $100 for "Using QuickBooks Effectively." A 10 percent discount is available for people who register for both workshops at the same time ($270 total). Fees include instruction, a custom designed instructional manual and light refreshments.

The CBS provides access to recognized experts, high quality programs and valuable resources within the university including customized contract training for businesses or organizations; confidential, no-cost business counseling; seminars, workshops and certificate programs; and additional resources and support available through the Small Business Development Center and the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network regional office.

These workshops are sponsored by the SBDC at UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education. The SBDC, funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration, is a member of the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network, a coalition of more than 100 organizations that provide access to services for small businesses throughout Wisconsin.

Reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities will be made if requested two weeks in advance. To register or obtain more information, contact Jim Mishefske at 715-836-5811 or 800-582-5182, use the Wisconsin Relay System (711), visit the Continuing Education website or e-mail ce@uwec.edu.
