EAU CLAIRE — At its meeting today, the Eau Claire City Council is scheduled to vote on a resolution in which the city and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire jointly proclaim Dec. 13 "Bon Iver Day."

The proclamation, upon passage, will mark the Eau Claire-based indie rock band's wrap-up of its successful 2011 U.S. and European tours with concerts Dec. 12 and 13 at UW-Eau Claire's Zorn Arena. Bon Iver, recently nominated for four Grammy awards, will perform the second of its two sold-out homecoming concerts at 8 p.m. tonight.

The proclamation notes Bon Iver "has its roots in, and has brought and continues to bring widespread attention to, the rich and growing musical and cultural scene in Eau Claire." It also cites the band's founder, Justin Vernon, a graduate of Eau Claire Memorial High School and UW-Eau Claire, and his leadership of the group, as well as Bon Iver's four recent Grammy nominations as reasons for the proclamation.

Bon Iver includes two UW-Eau Claire alumni: singer-songwriter Vernon, who earned a degree in comparative studies in religion in 2004, and vocalist and percussionist Sean Carey, who earned a music degree in 2007. Both continue to live in the Eau Claire area when not touring.

"UW-Eau Claire warmly welcomes Bon Iver to campus for its 2011 homecoming concerts," said UW-Eau Claire Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich. "We are always thrilled to see our alumni's successes, and we wholeheartedly join the city of Eau Claire in this formal recognition of these talented musicians and their contributions to the cultural richness of our region, our nation and the world."
