Media Memo: Media coverage of Dec. 12 and 13
Bon Iver concerts

TO: News Editors and Directors

FROM: Julie Poquette, News Bureau director

DATE: Dec. 7, 2011

SUBJECT: Media coverage of Dec. 12 and 13 Bon Iver concerts

The following guidelines apply to reporters and photographers planning to cover the Dec. 12 and 13 Bon Iver concerts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, the alma mater of Bon Iver's leader/singer-songwriter Justin Vernon and band member Sean Carey. Both concerts will be held in Zorn Arena, and doors will open at 7 p.m. both nights.

  • Live broadcasts. Media wishing to do live/remote broadcasts from inside or outside the arena before the concerts may park vehicles in the Zorn Arena lot. The entrance to the lot is on Park Avenue south of the Children's Center. Reporters and photographers may broadcast from inside Zorn Arena beginning at 6 p.m. and must leave the arena by 6:45 p.m. No press passes are required for pre-concert coverage, but media parking permits will be required for use of the Zorn Arena lot or any other university parking lot. (See below for details about securing a parking permit.)
  • Band interviews. Members of Bon Iver will not grant media interviews on either concert date.
  • Press passes. Reporters and photographers wishing to cover the performances must obtain concert press passes in advance by contacting Derek Brehm, UW-Eau Claire Service Center operations manager, at 715-836-5049 or brehmdl@uwec.edu. Press passes requested in advance will be available at the Zorn Arena will-call window before each concert. Reporters and photographers will be directed to a designated media area from which they can cover the concert.
  • Videotaping/photography. No videotaping of the concerts will be allowed. Non-flash photography will be permitted during each evening's opening act and during songs 2 through 4 of Bon Iver's performance.
  • Media parking permits. As an exception to usual media parking policies on campus, parking permits for reporters and photographers doing pre-show or performance coverage will be valid for spaces in the south half of the Zorn Arena lot as well as F and S spaces in any university lot. Media parking permits also will be valid for GF spaces in any university lot after 6 p.m. Media who already have UW-Eau Claire media parking permits may use them for these events. Any reporters or photographers needing parking permits may request them from Jean Piper in the UW-Eau Claire News Bureau at 715-836-4003 or piperej@uwec.edu.
