Continuing Education to offer ACT prep course this fall

RELEASED: Aug. 10, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will offer an ACT prep course for students in grades 10-12 each Sunday from
Sept. 4-Oct. 16. Classes will meet from 1-4 p.m. at UW-Eau Claire.

The ACT prep course prepares students in all academic areas measured by the ACT: English, reading, mathematics, scientific reasoning and writing. Students complete two practice tests and receive comprehensive instruction in each subject. They also receive individual instructor comments on two practice writing tests.

Libby Thurston, UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education's youth and precollege senior outreach specialist, believes the program serves a need in the community for additional college entrance test preparation.

"The ACT prep course is meant to complement the shorter programs already offered by local high schools and libraries. It's an affordable option for students who need a little more review," Thurston said. "While many students opt to prepare on their own, some students benefit from a more structured approach."

The course fee is $149, which includes instruction, practice exams and an ACT textbook.
