Area chaplains and counselors to lead end-of-life discussion

Angle imageEAU CLAIRE — Several Chippewa Valley chaplains and counselors will lead a panel discussion as part of the Hospice Foundation of America's 2011 Living with Grief program "Spirituality and End-of-Life Care" May 4 at Luther Midelfort in Eau Claire.

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension will offer the program, which will include a teleconference along with the live panel discussion.

The program will run from 12:45-4:30 p.m., with the panel discussion with local care providers beginning at 3:45 p.m. in the lower level auditorium at Luther Midelfort-Mayo Health System, 1221 Whipple St. Free parking is available in the ramp.

Panelists will include Nate Oldenkamp, chaplain with Dove Healthcare; Pat Chittendon, chaplain with Northwest Wisconsin HomeCare; Gerry Martinez, counselor with Palliative Care and Cancer Center at Sacred Heart Hospital; and Bruce Fredrickson, chaplain with Luther Midelfort.

The "Spirituality and End-of-Life Care" program is designed for clergy, counselors, nurses, nursing home administrators, social workers, case managers, psychologists, physicians, funeral directors, marriage and family therapists, caregivers and others whose work deals with death, dying, grief or bereavement.

The program fee is $10 per person. Licensed professionals can apply for continuing education contact hours through the Hospice Foundation of America. There is a $30 online processing fee per certificate, per participant.
