First Fridays concludes with presentation by Eau Claire Express general manager

First Friday logoRELEASED: April 22, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's First Fridays program for senior citizens will conclude this year's series with a May 6 presentation titled "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" — a preview of the 2011 Eau Claire Express baseball season. Andy Neborak, the team's general manager, will be the featured speaker.

Neborak is currently in his fifth season with the Express, winner of the 2010 Northwoods League Championship. This season will mark his second year as general manager, after one year as assistant director of operations. Before being hired full time, he served as the stadium operations intern during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.

A native of Waconia, Minn., Neborak graduated from UW-Eau Claire in May 2008 with a bachelor of business administration degree in business management. He currently lives in Eau Claire.

A free continental breakfast will precede the formal program at Christ Church Cathedral, located on the corner of Lake and Farwell streets in downtown Eau Claire. Doors will open for breakfast at 8:30 a.m., and the presentation will begin at 9 a.m. For the safety of the program's senior citizen audience, the event will be canceled if the Eau Claire Area School District cancels or delays classes due to hazardous weather.

First Fridays occurs on the first Friday of each month, October through May, with the exception of January, at no cost to the senior community. Those who have season passes stamped each month will be eligible for a grand prize drawing at the May presentation. The program is funded in part by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation Community Outreach Program for the Arts.

Concluding its ninth season, First Fridays is coordinated by Jennifer Brockpahler and Nicole Feldkamp of the University Centers Activities and Programs office and is hosted Christ Church Cathedral. Scott and Heather Kirby are First Fridays' community partners. The mission of First Fridays is to provide no-cost entertainment and educational experiences for senior citizens of the extended Chippewa Valley community through shared community and university sponsorship.
