EAU CLAIRE —A number of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students received awards and scholarships at the university's 37th annual Viennese Ball April 15 and 16.
Proceeds from the two-night event and donations to the Viennese Ball support awards and global study opportunities for UW-Eau Claire students. The awards and scholarships recognize international studies, music service and academic excellence, and service to the ball through employment in Davies Center.
Three students received the Heinz K. Seitinger Scholarship, given to UW-Eau Claire students studying in Graz, Austria. The scholarship is named for former Austrian trade commissioner Heinz K. Seitinger in recognition of his contributions to UW-Eau Claire's international programs. The following students received the Seitinger Scholarship:
— Seth Kreibich, a liberal studies (film) major from Eau Claire. His parents are Malinda Hebert and Rob Kreibich.
— Robert Margolis, a music (music theory) major from Plymouth, Minn. His parents are Kathy and Randy Margolis.
— Becca Yahr, double majoring in history and English literature with a minor in German, is from West Bend. She is the daughter of Mary and Ron Yahr.
The following students received Viennese Ball Senior Music scholarships, awarded for talent, academic achievement and contributions to the department of music and theatre arts:
— Samuel Emmons, double majoring in music (piano performance) and physics, from Barron. His parents are Lynn and Nathan Emmons.
— Alicia Fitchett, a music education (choral teaching) major from Green Bay. She is the daughter of Karen and Rick Fitchett.
— Tara Metcalf, a music (vocal performance) major from Eau Claire. Her parents are Laura and Mike Metcalf.
— Elizabeth Tomlinson, double majoring in music and public relations, from Clive, Iowa. Her parents are Paula and Jeff Tomlinson.
— Bethany Webster, double majoring in music and German, from Shawano. She is the daughter of Faith and Tom Webster.
— Alexandria Zunker, a music (flute performance) major from Conrath. Her parents are Valerie and Andrew Zunker.
Alyssa Severson, Eau Claire, received the Ada Bors Music Service Award, which recognizes outstanding service to the music and theatre arts department. The award is named for the originator and coordinator of the annual Viennese Ball through its silver anniversary year, in honor of her service to the community. Severson is double majoring in music composition and Spanish. Her parents are Lynn and Dan Severson.
The following three students received W.R. Davies University Center Service awards, which recognize outstanding service to the Viennese Ball:
— Jennesa Davidson, Waunakee, is pursuing a business administration degree. The daughter of Connie and Kyle Davidson, she is the student building manager supervisor.
— Olivia Krueger, Wisconsin Rapids, is majoring in English secondary education. The daughter of Ruth and Tim Krueger, she is the usher corps manager.
— Heidi Ward, Arpin, is a student building manager majoring in environmental public health. Her parents are Sandra and Patrick Ward.
The Viennese Ball also supports an additional 25 endowed and division scholarships each year.
The annual Viennese Ball is presented by the University Centers in cooperation with the music and theatre arts department and the Center for International Education.
