Juried Student Art Show winners announced, exhibit continues through April 28

EAU CLAIRE — The winners of the 54th annual Juried Student Art Show at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire have been announced.

Senior Christine Jo Alexander, East Troy, won first place for "Gift," a mixed media piece. Second place went to senior Kevin Krueger, Roseville, Minn., for his photography, "Lucid Void." Senior True Lor, Eau Claire, took third place for "Teapots," done in stonework.

The show, which began April 7 and runs through April 28 in the university's Foster Gallery, is free and open to the public.

This year 186 works were submitted by UW-Eau Claire students, with 71 accepted into the exhibit. The juror for the show was Charles Beneke, an associate professor of art at the University of Akron in Ohio.

Scholarships through the UW-Eau Claire Foundation were awarded in conjunction with the show. Recipients and their scholarships are Krueger, Ruth Foster Scholarship; Lor, Randolf Koelsch Art Scholarship; sophomore Catelyn Mailloux, St. Cloud, Minn., Charles and Ann Campbell Art Scholarship; junior Jason J. Anhorn, Eau Claire, Andrea Cecchini Memorial Art Scholarship; senior Rachel Gasque, Stevens Point, Edward S. Fish Art Scholarship; senior Anne Backstrom, Maddock, N.D., Herbert Friend Art and Design Scholarship; junior Aubre Walther, Eau Claire, Mary Bradley Grewe Fine Arts Scholarship; senior Monica J. Thayer, Kerkhoven, Minn., Gretchen Grimm Art Education Scholarship; Lauretta "Elle" McGee, Cedar, Minn., Klinger Art Scholarship; junior Rebecca Farrow, Germantown, Randolf Koelsch Art Scholarship; sophomore Christine Manwiller, Turtle Lake, Leslie, Edward "Ted" Haugen Memorial Scholarship; senior Megan Byron, Blaine, Minn., Josette T. Migawa Arts Education Scholarship; junior Grace Fechner, Burnsville, Minn., Gerald W. Newton Art Scholarship; and senior Katherine C. Grundl, Thiensville, Gerald W. Newton Art Scholarship.

Foster Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays, 6-8 p.m. Thursdays and 1-4:30 p.m. weekends.
