Internet safety forum planned for April 27

RELEASED: April 21, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — An event to address issues related to Internet safety and awareness will be held from noon-1 p.m. April 27 in the Davies Theatre of Davies Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The Internet Safety Forum will cover such topics as password security, wireless security, how police and employers use social media, website security, the kinds of information people should never make available online and other related topics.

Speakers will include Dr. Paul Wagner, professor and chair of the computer science department; Brian Carlisle, dean of students; Dr. Scott Lester, professor of management; Dr. Kate Hale Wilson, sustainability fellow; and a representative of the Altoona Police Department.

The forum, which is free and open to the public, is part of "Internet Safety Week" sponsored by the Student Services Commission of the Student Senate. In addition to the forum, there will be a table set up in Davies Center April 26 and April 28 with information about Facebook privacy settings, websites that track personal data and other information regarding Internet safety.
