University Band concert set for April 19

RELEASED: April 18, 2011

EAU CLAIRE — The University Band will perform its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. April 19 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The concert will feature student conductor Stefanie Berkopec, a senior music education major from Apple Valley, Minn., for "Chorale and Shaker Dance" by John Zdechlik.

Each semester, conductor Randal Dickerson, associate professor of music, invites a senior to conduct one piece for the band prior to their departure to student teach.

"I have had a great experience this semester working with the band because it is a group of my peers and they are very welcoming and supportive of my conducting," Berkopec said, adding that it serves as solid practice in conducting and rehearsing a piece.

The University Band is composed of musicians from many academic disciplines, including music majors, some of whom choose to perform on a secondary instrument.

Tickets, available online and at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $3 for those 62 and older, 17 and younger, and faculty and staff with a university ID; and free for students with a university ID.
