EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will present "On the Verge," a comical play, at 7:30 p.m. May 5-7 and May 11-14, and at 1:30 p.m. May 8 in Riverside Theatre of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The story follows three female Victorian explorers who realize they are not only traveling the globe, they are traveling through time. Throughout their adventures, they meet a variety of colorful characters, such as a German cannibal, a yeti, a troll and a mysterious fortune teller. The adventure ends with the women finding themselves in 1955.

The production is directed by Richard Nimke, associate professor of theatre arts and coordinator of the theatre arts division.

"The play is very articulate and smart," said Nimke. "The production has a range of humor and should appeal to everyone."

The entire cast consists of six actors. Three men will play the eight different characters the women meet on their journey. The part of Mary will be played by senior Cassia Harder, Hartland. Fanny will be played by junior Samantha Johnson, Rogers, Minn., and Alex will be played by junior Siri Brobst, Rochester, Minn. Junior John Stocks, McFarland, will play the parts of Alphonse and Gus. Senior Chasten Glezman, Traverse City, Mich., will play Grover, Mr. Coffee and Madame Nhu. Senior Cameron Cylkowski, Little Canada, Minn., will play the yeti, the troll and Nicky.

Kevin Gawley, assistant professor of theatre arts, is designing the set and lighting for the show and senior Stephanie Kass, Cedarburg, is designing the costumes.

Tickets for the event are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff, $8 for children and $4.50 for UW-Eau Claire students with a student ID.
