Jazz II to perform tribute to Michael Mossman for April 21 concert

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Jazz Ensemble II, directed by Robert Baca, professor of music, will present "The Jazz Calling: A tribute to Michael Mossman" at 7:30 p.m. April 21 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

Students featured in Mossman arrangements, such as "Ah-leu-cha," "Now You Know," "Evil Ways" and "Mayte Allen's Room Caper" are seniors Michael Mower, Blackhawk, S.D., trumpet; Jason Marshall, Oconomowoc, trombone; Alex Chilsen, New Richmond, piano; Travis Kaney, Sun Prairie, baritone saxophone; and Mary Claxton, Burnsville, auxiliary percussion; juniors Joel Carlsen, Eau Claire, trumpet; and Jared Mondlock, Menomonie, drums; sophomores Cody Christian, Franklin, bass; Aaron Godin, Prescott, alto saxophone; and Justin Kevan, Genoa City, alto saxophone; and freshmen Nick Pierce, Farmington, Minn., tenor saxophone; and Kateri Farrell, Minneapolis, Minn., flute.

Other compositions will feature solos by senior Philip Reilly, Milton, guitar; juniors Max Palzewicz, Brookfield, tenor saxophone; Alexandra Isaacson, Clintonville, trumpet; and Elizabeth Tomlinson, Clive, trumpet; sophomores Cody Peterson, Stillwater, Minn., piano; Justin Kevan, Genoa City, alto saxophone; Josh Huot-Gallus, Farmington, Minn., trombone; and Cody Christian, Franklin, bass; and freshman David Boehm, Rosemount, trombone; as well as vocalist Jo Alexander.

The entire trombone section will be showcased in Gillespie and Paparelli's "A Night in Tunisia," along with a solo by sophomore Guy Dee, Eau Claire, on trombone.

Tickets, available online at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $3 for those 62 and older, 17 and younger, and faculty and staff with a university ID; and free for students with a university ID.
