'Break the Silence' concert set for April 18

Break the Silence posterEAU CLAIRE — An April 18 concert to "Break the Silence" will recognize the National Day of Silence at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Day of Silence is an annual day of action in which students nationwide take a vow of silence to protest the bullying and harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and allies.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center. Admission is free, and the first 150 people who attend will receive a free "(N)Eau Silence" T-shirt.

Participants include the Affirmative Action office, College Feminists, Anastasia Davis, the Dean of Students office, Miss Dee-Lovely, Forward Momentum, Nikki Harper, Davey J from the Jones Tones, Christopher Jorgenson, Tara Metcalf, Dacia Miller, Dr. Katherine Rhoades, Becky and Tim Santine, Roxie Schmidt, Annelies Slack, Students for a Fair Wisconsin and the Student Life and Diversity Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.

The program is sponsored by the Women's and Gender Equity Center, a Student Affairs unit of UW-Eau Claire. WAGE advocates for the welfare of those who have historically been marginalized because of their sexual and/or gender identity.
