Musical events for the week of Sept. 12

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performance the week beginning Sept. 12. The event is free and open to the public.

Sunday, Sept. 12:

  • Dr. Donald Patterson, professor of piano and coordinator of the music and theatre arts department keyboard division, will present a piano recital at 2 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall in the Haas Fine Arts Center. Patterson will perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach (including an arrangement by Australian/English pianist and teacher Max Pirani), Venetian composer and harpsichordist Baldassare Galuppi, British composer Geoffrey Bush, Johannes Brahms, Franz Liszt and Robert Schumann.

    Patterson has performed in Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and many parts of the United States. He has been designated a master teacher by the Music Teachers National Association. An active scholar, researcher and reviewer, he has authored the books "One Handed: A Guide to Piano Music for One Hand"; "Vincent Persichetti: A Bio-Bibliography"; "Keyboard Melodies"; and "50 Hymn Tunes Without Words for Sightreading.

Thursday, Sept. 16:

  • The U.S. Army Blues jazz combo will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. A master class also will be held with the group at noon Sept. 17 in Room 139 of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Both events are free and open to the public.
