Discussion of women in reality television scheduled for Sept. 13

RELEASED: Sept. 3, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — An interactive article discussion about women in reality television will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Participants should gather in the TV lounge located in the basement of Sutherland Hall on upper campus.

The featured article, "Throwing Grenades: The Portrayal of Women in Reality Television," also addresses gender roles and sexuality. Shows to be covered include MTV's "Jersey Shore," ABC's "The Bachelor," E!'s "The Girls Next Door" and more.

Each month, UW-Eau Claire's Women's and Gender Equity Center (WAGE) and Sutherland Hall host an article discussion that addresses a different women's issue. Articles for the discussion can be accessed on the WAGE website. Future fall 2010 article discussion topics will include body image, sexual communication and international feminism.

Events are free and open to the public. For more information contact Abby Vercauteren, WAGE Center, at 715-836-2693 or vercaual@uwec.edu.
