Wind Symphony, Honor Band to perform Nov. 6

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Wind Symphony and high school Honor Band, directed by Dr. Peter Haberman, assistant professor of music, will perform at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Honor Band is composed of nearly 80 students from Wisconsin and Minnesota high schools. Interested students apply, and members are chosen by UW-Eau Claire faculty. Starting at 8 a.m., participating students have a day of rehearsals and master classes leading up to the evening performance. Prior to the concert, students also take part in the Honor Band Wind Clinic.

The Wind Symphony will perform "Zing" by Scott McAllister, "The Flower Song" by Georges Bizet, "Angels in the Architecture" by Frank Ticheli and "Ghost Train" by Eric Whitacre.

The Honor Band will begin with "Amparito Roca" by Jaime Texidor, "Radiant Moonbeams" by David Gillingham "Introduction and Dance" by J. Edouard Barat, featuring Dr. Jerry Young, professor of music, and "Joy Revisited" by Ticheli. The Honor Band's final two selections will be "Serenade" by Derek Bourgeois and selections from Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story."
